Paris
About the City
As well as being the capital of France, Paris is arguably the cultural capital of Europe and is one of the world’s great cities. There is no end to renowned sites to see, such as the Louvre and the Arc de Triumph. As the commercial center of France, the streets and markets are always bustling with activity. One of its greatest appeals for students is the sociable café culture during the daytime and the many bars and clubs to visit in the evenings.
As it is the capital city, its transportation systems are extensive and affordable. For example, a monthly-unlimited metro pass is just 30 euros. You can also go further afield with long-distance trains and planes from Charles de Gaulle airport. The climate doesn’t benefit from the sun and warmth of the South, but it is generally mild and moderately wet. Although it is the perfect city for many international students wanting to experience France, it is not for everyone. For those on a tight budget, other cities such as Reims may be preferable.
